People have always been fascinated by the space, which is why it has been an object of their research for centuries. The previous century brought us some new findings about the space. However, this unimaginably large area still has a lot to offer. Although new knowledge about the space is waiting to be discovered, the facts we are familiar with are also fascinating. 10. The Moon is moving away from the Earth
The surface of the Moon is a quarter of the Earth's surface, its mass is an eighth of the Earth’s mass, and its gravity is one-sixth of the Earth’s gravty. It turns around its own axis and around the Earth continuously on a nearly circular orbit, at an average distance of about 358 000 km. Natural satellite of our planet moves away from us 3.8 cm per year. This will result in its being on a very distant orbit, and in its revolving together with the Earth as a single solid body, while facing each other.
9. The Earth is slowing down
This piece of information is connected to the fact that the Moon is moving away from the Earth. It pulls the oceans at the bottom which causes slower motion of the Earth. The Earth’s slowing down causes speeding up the Moon which is why it moves away. Rotation of the Earth 900 million years ago lasted 18 days, while the year lasted 481 day. It was calculated that our planet slows down 0.002 seconds per day, every century. This means that days are getting longer.
8. The Moon is not the only one
The Moon is a rock which orbit is close to the Earth. But, it’s not the only companion of the Earth. There are at least 3 celestial bodies which follow the Earth constantly. There are several asteroids that orbit the Earth regularly. One of them is Cruithne, discovered in 1986 by Duncan Waldron. It does not orbit the Earth, but the Sun, and its orbit is almost the same as the Earth’s, and in relation to the Earth its orbit is shaped like a horseshoe.
7. The universe is expanding
Recent researches show that the universe is expanding and that all the objects inside of it are moving away of each other. This is the consequence of space expanding. It was explained simply - it’s the same as if two dots drawn on a balloon moved away of each other as we inflate the balloon. Most of the scientists use this fact to support the ‘Big Bang ‘theory, which, according to scientists, happened 13.7 billion years ago.
6. Radio waves
In order to support the ‘Big Bang’ theory scientists ‘rely’ on radio waves which are emitted by the space. Namely, radio waves came to existence at the same time as the universe itself. Radio-wave researches can give us a lot of information about the space. There is even a separated astronomy branch which studies only radio waves. This is why the largest radio telescopes are placed in the USA, Australia, the UK and many countries of Latin America.
5. Expansion rate of the universe is accelerating
Up until now, scientists claimed that expansion rate of the universe was slowing down. However, the latest researches have shown that it is accelerating, and that, at this moment, it is faster than light. Using the method in which a set of galaxies called ‘Abel 1689’ distorts light from distant stars, the astronomers tried to find out the amount of so called ‘dark energy’ – a mysterious space force which accelerates expanding of the universe. Scientists believe that the expansion will eventually lead to creation of the cold and deserted universe.
4. The stars show us the past
One of the most amazing facts is that every time we look at the night sky we actually see millions of years of past. Even the Sun light takes eight minutes to come to the Earth. Imagine looking at a galaxy 5 billion light years away through a telescope. What you actually see is the way it looked 5 billion years ago, and it is probably not in the same place anymore, and it looks completely different.

The space is an enormous vacuum which should make metal joining extremely simple, that is, if you simply put two pieces of metal together they will be joined. The first welding and thermal cutting in the space was performed on the Soviet spaceship ‘Soyuz 6’ in 1969. 10. The New World Order
NWO is a conspiracy theory in which a powerful group of individuals plots to rule the world through a common world government, which would replace individual countries and other international mechanisms. Secret societies such as the Illuminati, Freemasons and Bilderbergs, which are the core of these theories, are powerful groups which, by using famous people from the areas of economy, culture and politics, reach to the people and achieve their ultimate goal – the overall control. The photo showed a long neck of an animal rising from the water. This photo was considered the only evidence of the existence of the Loch Ness monster for the next couple of decades. However, in 1994, a certain Christian Spurling confessed, right before his death, that he had helped Colonel Robert Wilson in creating this photo.

The theorists say that she was pregnant, and the letters which “prove” that prince Charles plotted to kill her were published posthumously.

He claimed that HIV is a combination of two viruses that could be paired up only in laboratory conditions. After its creation, this lethal virus was brought to Africa where it spread among its poor and weak population. And, and from there, it spread all over the world. The aim of its creation, according to the advocates of this theory was reduction of the world population and enrichment of pharmaceutical companies.

American president J.F. Kennedy was murdered in Dallas in 1963. After a long investigation Lee Harvey Oswald was charged with murder. Conspiracy theorists believe there must have been at least one more murderer, and they question Lee’s motives for this assassination. They assume that various political opponents, government agencies and, in the end, the mob, which some believe Kennedy cooperated with, stand behind his assassination.

Many believe that the US military covered up the evidence of an alien spacecraft that crashed in Roswell, New Mexico on 8th July 1947. This theory evolved because American government first reported that the object that crashed was a flying saucer, and then changed the statement claiming that the object was a weather balloon.
